Hi, my name is Visvak and I am a writer and editor, mostly of narrative non-fiction.

I am currently studying South Asian history and politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, on a Chevening scholarship.

I’ve worked in print and digital journalism—as an editor and as a reporter. I used to run Dialogue, BuzzFeed India’s essays section, and I’ve also worked as a features writer and editor at The Hindu and at BusinessLine.

I have written for various publications as a freelance reporter and worked as an external editor with the Economic & Political Weekly. More on my professional journey here.

I have primarily reported on the intersections of technology, politics, and culture and as a commissioning editor, my focus has been around gender and caste. My writing has appeared in The Hindu, Caravan, Scroll.in, The Wire, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed News, Mint, Business Line, Mongabay, Asia Times, Newslaundry, Pragati, and Arre, among others.

If you want to get a quick sense of my writing and reporting, these five pieces are, in my opinion, my greatest hits. A wider selection of my published work is available here.

You can reach me at visvak [at] pm [dot] me if you want to commission me to write or edit, pass on a lead, or just have a chat.

Or if you just want to hear me rant and rave from a safe distance, follow me on Twitter @visvak.
